Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Croatia (FOB) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,627 per ton in June 2023, approximately equating the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 10% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,879 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,127 per ton), while the average price for exports to Albania ($1,384 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,068 per ton, dropping by -11.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,480 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($2,552 per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($615 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Croatia

In 2022, overseas shipments of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -6.1% to 41K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 43K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports shrank significantly to $58M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $74M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of aluminium waste and scraps increased by 1.2% to 1.5K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, faced a significant contraction.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports reduced to $1.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a dramatic decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year.
