Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Hong Kong SAR (FOB) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,924 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,187 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($2,063 per ton) and China ($1,931 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($1,795 per ton) and India ($1,848 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,732 per ton, growing by 3.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The import price peaked at $2,029 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Canada ($1,831 per ton) and the United States ($1,800 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($1,297 per ton) and Malaysia ($1,443 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps exported from Hong Kong SAR declined remarkably to 374K tons, which is down by -38.4% compared with 2021 figures.
