Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in India (CIF) - 2023
The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $2,025 per ton in June 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,502 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Israel ($2,370 per ton) and Spain ($2,368 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,797 per ton) and the Netherlands ($1,841 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,922 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 8.3% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,403 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,324 per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($1,385 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in India
Aluminium waste and scrap imports into India contracted to 1.5M tons in 2022, which is down by -11% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.6M tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports contracted dramatically to $2.5B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 74%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.1B, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in India
In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps exported from India reduced sharply to 7.5K tons, with a decrease of -22.5% on the previous year. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +40.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 9.7K tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports contracted sharply to $14M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 156%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $20M, and then plummeted in the following year.
