Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Ireland (FOB) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,492 per ton in June 2023, rising by 5.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 21% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,569 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,099 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($836 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,423 per ton, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,275 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,392 per ton), while the price for Sweden ($367 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Ireland

For the fourth year in a row, Ireland recorded growth in shipments abroad of aluminium waste and scraps, which increased by 35% to 47K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports contracted to $42M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $48M, and then shrank in the following year.
