Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Serbia (FOB) - 2024

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,988 per ton in April 2024, jumping by 20% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,079 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to April 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In April 2024, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($2,160 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($965 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In April 2024, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $2,500 per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,554 per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina stood at $2,154 per ton.

From April 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Serbia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of aluminium waste and scraps, when their volume decreased by -3.3% to 20K tons. Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 21K tons, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports surged to $47M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 106%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Serbia

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps imported into Serbia shrank markedly to 7.3K tons, with a decrease of -43.3% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 13K tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports declined dramatically to $23M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 131% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $30M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
