Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Spain (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,873 per ton, which is down by -3.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 7.7% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,446 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($2,249 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,090 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,579 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -4.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,817 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($2,558 per ton), while the price for Italy ($1,056 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Spain
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of aluminium waste and scraps decreased by -19.9% to 166K tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 207K tons, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports contracted significantly to $276M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $388M, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Spain
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of aluminium waste and scraps, when their volume decreased by -11.4% to 256K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 289K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports contracted rapidly to $294M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $385M, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
