Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Croatia (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $980 per ton in June 2023, rising by 14% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated pronounced growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, apples, pears and quinces; fresh import price increased by +26.1% against January 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 28% month-to-month. The import price peaked in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,333 per ton), while the price for Serbia stood at $755 per ton.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $955 per ton, with an increase of 39% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 52% against the previous month. The export price peaked in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($1,105 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($541 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+24.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Croatia

For the fourth year in a row, Croatia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of apples, pears and quinces; freshes, which increased by 0.3% to 28K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh imports shrank to $19M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 45%.
