The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $1,626 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 12% against the previous month. Overall, the import price enjoyed a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 48% m-o-m. The import price peaked in June 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were South Africa ($2,270 per ton) and New Zealand ($1,772 per ton), while the price for Chile ($1,577 per ton) and Argentina ($1,724 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $883 per ton in June 2023, growing by 4.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 41% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,050 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($1,253 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($946 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Germany
In 2022, supplies from abroad of apples, pears and quinces; freshes decreased by -10.3% to 705K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 826K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh imports declined markedly to $727M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
