Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,777 per ton, picking up by 9% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, apples, pears and quinces; fresh export price increased by +93.4% against October 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($2,056 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($1,079 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,737 per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a mild increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, apples, pears and quinces; fresh import price increased by +128.2% against October 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 34% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in June 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were South Africa ($2,014 per ton) and New Zealand ($1,855 per ton), while the price for Chile ($1,663 per ton) and Argentina ($1,771 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in the Netherlands

In 2022, overseas shipments of apples, pears and quinces; freshes decreased by -16.3% to 494K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 632K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh exports dropped remarkably to $570M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -29.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $807M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
