Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Turkey (FOB) - 2023
In March 2023, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $430 per ton, waning by -20.1% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a mild increase from July 2022 to March 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2023 figures, apples, pears and quinces; fresh export price decreased by -25.6% against December 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 22% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $578 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to March 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Israel ($855 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($62.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $625 per ton in 2022, picking up by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The import price peaked at $962 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,051 per ton), while the price for Moldova ($304 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Turkey
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of apples, pears and quinces; freshes, when their volume decreased by -3.4% to 445K tons. In general, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +74.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 460K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh exports fell to $229M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 47%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $248M, and then shrank in the following year.
