In July 2023, the average article of natural cork export price amounted to $44,442 per ton, waning by -2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 28% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $45,664 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($78,413 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($9,237 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average article of natural cork import price amounted to $14,511 per ton, reducing by -25.6% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a mild expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, article of natural cork import price increased by +29.2% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 92% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $23,182 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($39,259 per ton), while the price for Spain ($8,455 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+18.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Article of Natural Cork in Portugal
