In 2022, the average export price for articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather amounted to $57 per unit, waning by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather increased by +60.3% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 55%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $72 per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($72 per unit), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($3.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather amounted to $15 per unit, which is down by -5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $32 per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($103 per unit), while the price for Thailand ($3.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories, of Leather or of Composition Leather in Sri Lanka
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather, when their volume increased by 62% to 288K units. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a dramatic setback. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure at 920K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, exports of articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather surged to $16M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a sharp contraction. The exports peaked at $37M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
