Price for Bed Linen, Table Linen, Toilet Linen and Kitchen Linen in Hungary (CIF) - 2024

The average import price for bed linen, table linen, toilet linen and kitchen linens stood at $2.2 per unit in March 2024, picking up by 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3.0 per unit in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to March 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the highest price was recorded for prices from India ($2.3 per unit) and Turkey ($1.9 per unit), while the price for Pakistan ($1.8 per unit) and China ($1.8 per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From April 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for bed linen, table linen, toilet linen and kitchen linens stood at $2.6 per unit in March 2024, growing by 4.4% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.3% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2.8 per unit in November 2023; however, from December 2023 to March 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($2.2 per unit), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina totaled $2.1 per unit.

From April 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in overseas purchases of bed linen, table linen, toilet linen and kitchen linens, which increased by 26% to 25M units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of bed linen, table linen, toilet linen and kitchen linens contracted to $72M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 9%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $75M, and then reduced in the following year.
