Price for Books, Brochures and Leaflets in Hungary (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average books, brochures and leaflets export price amounted to $5,188 per ton, falling by -11.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 21%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,839 per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($20,187 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($2,670 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+17.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average books, brochures and leaflets import price amounted to $10,254 per ton, jumping by 44% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated perceptible growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, books, brochures and leaflets import price increased by +43.5% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 48% month-to-month. The import price peaked in June 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($23,516 per ton), while the price for Germany ($5,037 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+27.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Books, Brochures and Leaflets in Hungary

For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded decline in overseas shipments of books, brochures, leaflets and similar printed matter, which decreased by -6.5% to 6.3K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a drastic downturn.

In value terms, books, brochures and leaflets exports shrank notably to $33M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $40M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year.

In value terms, books, brochures and leaflets imports stood at $30M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
