The average books, brochures and leaflets import price stood at $23,276 per ton in July 2023, rising by 28% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($57,525 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($4,988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average books, brochures and leaflets export price stood at $16,198 per ton in July 2023, waning by -6.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 16% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $26,552 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($32,664 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($2,617 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Books, Brochures and Leaflets in Japan

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of books, brochures, leaflets and similar printed matter decreased by -30.9% to 6.7K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +10.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 9.7K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, books, brochures and leaflets imports reduced to $140M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $154M, and then contracted in the following year.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 7.2%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $104M, and then reduced in the following year.
