Price for Buckwheat, Millet and Canary Seed; Other Cereals in Estonia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average export price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses amounted to $919 per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 69% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $929 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were France ($1,142 per ton) and Italy ($1,045 per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($784 per ton) and Latvia ($788 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+18.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average import price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses amounted to $1,636 per ton, rising by 114% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 321% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,340 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,431 per ton), while the price for Poland ($725 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Buckwheat, Millet and Canary Seed; Other Cereals in Estonia

In 2022, approx. 6.1K tons of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses were exported from Estonia; rising by 34% on the previous year. Overall, exports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 188% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, exports of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses surged to $5.6M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 167% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
