The average import price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses stood at $2,103 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous month. The import price peaked in December 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Peru ($2,623 per ton), while the price for Russia ($816 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 when the average export price increased by 17% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,062 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,370 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($376 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses decreased by -13% to 57K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 67K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
