Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in Finland (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average butter and dairy spreads export price amounted to $5,801 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 7% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,830 per ton. From December 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($7,052 per ton) and Azerbaijan ($6,975 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,936 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($5,297 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average butter and dairy spreads import price amounted to $6,514 per ton, rising by 31% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 45% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $7,200 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($8,620 per ton), while the price for Sweden ($5,526 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Butter and Dairy Spreads in Finland
In 2022, shipments abroad of butter and dairy spreads decreased by -11.6% to 30K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 35K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, butter and dairy spreads exports soared to $173M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
