In August 2023, the average export price for buttons; of base metal, not covered with textile materials amounted to $81,725 per ton, falling by -7.9% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a measured increase from December 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, export price for buttons; of base metal, not covered with textile materials increased by +81.3% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 60% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $91,919 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($129K per ton), while the average price for exports to Kosovo ($1,903 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for buttons; of base metal, not covered with textile materials stood at $51,621 per ton in August 2023, with an increase of 29% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable increase from December 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, import price for buttons; of base metal, not covered with textile materials increased by +120.0% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 71% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $53,057 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($69,109 per ton), while the price for India ($4,387 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+28.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Buttons; of Base Metal, Not Covered with Textile Material in Germany
Exports of buttons; of base metal, not covered with textile materials from Germany rose remarkably to 164 tons in 2022, surging by 5.4% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, exports of buttons; of base metal, not covered with textile materials shrank to $9.4M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $9.9M, and then reduced in the following year.
