In October 2023, the average import price for cabbages, cauliflowers, kohlrabi, kale and similar edible brassicas; fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,419 per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 30% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,569 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($7,129 per ton), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($432 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for cabbages, cauliflowers, kohlrabi, kale and similar edible brassicas; fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,678 per ton, surging by 47% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a perceptible increase from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, export price for cabbages, cauliflowers, kohlrabi, kale and similar edible brassicas; fresh or chilleds increased by +47.4% against September 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 73% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in October 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Norway ($2,989 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,557 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Cabbages, Cauliflowers, Kohlrabi, Kale and Similar Edible Brassicas; Fresh or Chilled in France

For the fourth consecutive year, France recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cabbages, cauliflowers, kohlrabi, kale and similar edible brassicas; fresh or chilleds, which increased by 8.6% to 125K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of cabbages, cauliflowers, kohlrabi, kale and similar edible brassicas; fresh or chilleds fell dramatically to $107M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $127M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of cabbages, cauliflowers, kohlrabi, kale and similar edible brassicas; fresh or chilleds shrank rapidly to $106M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 7.1% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $126M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
