The average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery stood at $2,034 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($2,505 per ton), while the price for India ($1,098 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $947 per ton, which is down by -36.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,497 per ton in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($1,706 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($743 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Candy, Sweets, and Nonchocolate Confectionery in Tanzania
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery decreased by -38.1% to 9.1K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 15K tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports declined notably to $18M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $26M, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
