Price for Cereals; Barley, Other than Seed in Luxembourg (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average export price for cereals; barley, other than seeds amounted to $218 per ton, shrinking by -11.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 21% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $409 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($230 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany amounted to $218 per ton.

From December 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average import price for cereals; barley, other than seeds amounted to $307 per ton, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cereals; barley, other than seed import price decreased by -27.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 132% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $422 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($752 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($246 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Cereals; Barley, Other than Seed in Luxembourg

For the third consecutive year, Luxembourg recorded decline in shipments abroad of cereals; barley, other than seeds, which decreased by -38.1% to 4.3K tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a precipitous descent. The smallest decline of -29.6% was in 2021.

In value terms, cereals; barley, other than seed exports declined to $1.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic contraction. The smallest decline of -12.2% was in 2021.
