In August 2023, the average import price for cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds amounted to $306 per ton, picking up by 9.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $337 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Portugal ($325 per ton) and France ($321 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($293 per ton) and Romania ($296 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
