Price for Cereals; Maize (Corn), Seed in France (FOB) - 2023

The average cereals; maize (corn), seed export price stood at $1,291 per ton in July 2023, waning by -25.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 136% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $5,508 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($7,213 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($298 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+27.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed import price amounted to $6,261 per ton, picking up by 4.9% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a temperate expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, cereals; maize (corn), seed import price increased by +4.9% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($14,148 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($3,806 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Cereals; Maize (Corn), Seed in France

In 2022, the amount of cereals; maize (corn), seeds exported from France surged to 255K tons, picking up by 15% on 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
