The average cereals; maize (corn), seed import price stood at $4,786 per ton in 2022, falling by -10.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 37%. The import price peaked at $5,362 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($10,317 per ton), while the price for Romania ($1,013 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cereals; maize (corn), seed export price stood at $2,036 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -57.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 230% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $16,298 per ton. From November 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($10,302 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($1,446 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Cereals; Maize (Corn), Seed in the Netherlands

In 2022, overseas purchases of cereals; maize (corn), seeds decreased by -14.1% to 20K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 55%.

In value terms, cereals; maize (corn), seed imports reduced rapidly to $97M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71%.
