The average import price for cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed stood at $3,524 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 166%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,605 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($7,916 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,350 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+18.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed stood at $3,760 per ton in 2022, waning by -16.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 177%. The export price peaked at $6,178 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($30,065 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($982 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Somalia (+88.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cheese, Other than Blue-Veined, Grated, Powdered or Processed in Uganda
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed decreased by -28.1% to 92 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 128%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 128 tons, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed declined markedly to $324K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $446K, and then declined significantly in the following year.
