The average import price for chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa stood at $8,097 per ton in September 2023, surging by 10% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a prominent increase from February 2023 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +8.0% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, import price for chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa increased by +105.8% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in September 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($20,064 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($3,634 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average export price for chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa amounted to $3,238 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, export price indicated measured growth from February 2023 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last seven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, export price for chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa increased by +16.1% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 52% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,698 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2,398 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
