In 2022, the average import price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses amounted to $14 per thousand units, picking up by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 16%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $20 per thousand units. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($89 per thousand units), while the price for Vietnam ($7.5 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses amounted to $21 per thousand units, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses decreased by -2.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $21 per thousand units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($43 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Iran ($7.5 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+12.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third year in a row, Malaysia recorded decline in purchases abroad of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses, which decreased by -5.7% to 7.9B units in 2022. Overall, imports faced a deep downturn. Imports peaked at 15B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses contracted to $111M in 2022. In general, imports showed a dramatic descent. Imports peaked at $250M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, exports saw a significant decrease. The exports peaked at 4.7B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses declined notably to $13M in 2022. Overall, exports saw a significant curtailment. The exports peaked at $93M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
