In 2022, the average import price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses amounted to $15 per thousand units, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $69 per thousand units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($36 per thousand units), while the price for Serbia ($5.5 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (-3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In general, the export price saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $80 per thousand units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($53 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($12 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nicaragua (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses into Mexico stood at 1.6B units, standing approx. at 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 1.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at 1.7B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 8.1% against the previous year.
