In 2022, the average export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses amounted to $18 per thousand units, falling by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $19 per thousand units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($31 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Japan ($11 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses amounted to $23 per thousand units, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 17%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($35 per thousand units), while the price for Vietnam ($11 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, exports recorded a sharp decline. The smallest decline of -5.3% was in 2021. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at 60B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses shrank markedly to $391M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic slump. The smallest decline of -6.7% was in 2021. Imports peaked at 48B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses plummeted to $371M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $804M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
