The average export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses stood at $20 per thousand units in 2022, growing by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses increased by +18.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $28 per thousand units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($42 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($3.1 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses amounted to $26 per thousand units, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $30 per thousand units. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($104 per thousand units), while the price for Cyprus ($7.1 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Cigars, Cheroots, Cigarillos and Cigarettes; of Tobacco or of Tobacco Substitutes in Sri Lanka
Exports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses from Sri Lanka fell markedly to 695M units in 2022, dropping by -32.5% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1B units, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses dropped remarkably to $14M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 135%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $19M, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In general, imports continue to indicate a precipitous decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 849% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.4B units, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses shrank remarkably to $13M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 717%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $32M, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
