The average import price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses stood at $20 per thousand units in 2022, with an increase of 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 7.1%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $26 per thousand units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($49 per thousand units), while the price for Niger ($3.4 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses stood at $15 per thousand units in 2022, reducing by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses decreased by -29.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 41%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $22 per thousand units. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($32 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Sierra Leone ($2.7 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Togo (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cigars, Cheroots, Cigarillos and Cigarettes; of Tobacco or of Tobacco Substitutes in Vietnam
Imports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses into Vietnam contracted dramatically to 22B units in 2022, which is down by -47.5% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at 62B units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes; of tobacco or of tobacco substituteses dropped dramatically to $444M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a significant curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at $1.3B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
