In January 2022, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price amounted to $4,011 per ton, with a decrease of -3.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2021 an increase of 3.9% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4,153 per ton in December 2021, and then declined slightly in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from Slovakia ($4,407 per ton) and Germany ($4,080 per ton), while the price for Estonia ($3,417 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($3,993 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Russia (FOB) - 2022
In January 2022, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price amounted to $3,888 per ton, which is down by -1.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2021 an increase of 35% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,177 per ton. From November 2021 to January 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($4,784 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($3,590 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Russia
Cocoa; paste, not defatted imports into Russia declined to 40K tons in 2022, dropping by -7% against 2021 figures. In general, imports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 16%.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted imports dropped to $156M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $172M, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Russia
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of cocoa; paste, not defatteds decreased by -18.4% to 585 tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 58%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 717 tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted exports shrank sharply to $2.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 67%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.9M, and then fell sharply in the following year.
