The average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price stood at $5,306 per ton in August 2023, falling by -1.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,403 per ton in July 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,338 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany stood at $5,281 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.0%).

The average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price stood at $4,563 per ton in August 2023, flattening at the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 10% m-o-m. The import price peaked in August 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($6,698 per ton), while the price for Ghana ($3,591 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
