Price for Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
The average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price stood at $3,872 per ton in July 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,981 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($5,583 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($3,514 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price stood at $5,131 per ton in July 2023, rising by 18% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Israel ($6,153 per ton) and Iraq ($5,900 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($4,500 per ton) and Iran ($4,560 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Turkey
In 2022, the amount of cocoa; paste, not defatteds imported into Turkey was estimated at 27K tons, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted imports dropped to $94M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $100M, and then fell in the following year.
