Price for Cocoa Powder with Sugar in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average cocoa powder with sugar export price amounted to $3,309 per ton, reducing by -42.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 30% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,941 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Botswana ($5,070 per ton), while the average price for exports to Swaziland ($1,564 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average cocoa powder with sugar import price amounted to $2,676 per ton, with a decrease of -5.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 56% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,149 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,455 per ton), while the price for Swaziland totaled $2,557 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.2%).
Exports of Cocoa Powder with Sugar in South Africa
In 2022, shipments abroad of cocoa powder (containing added sugar) decreased by -7.3% to 1.1K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37%.
