Price for Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average export price for copper bars, wire and plates amounted to $8,710 per ton, with an increase of 7.5% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 when the average export price increased by 8.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in December 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($9,881 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($5,294 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for copper bars, wire and plates stood at $10,788 per ton in December 2021, with an increase of 9.2% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2021 an increase of 19% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in December 2021.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($12,642 per ton) and Singapore ($11,474 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($9,125 per ton) and South Korea ($9,702 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Malaysia
Copper bars, wire and plates exports from Malaysia reduced to 132K tons in 2022, shrinking by -13% on the year before. In general, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31%.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates exports declined sharply to $868M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 71%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.1B, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports of Copper Bars, Wire and Plates in Malaysia
