Price for Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in India (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $9,970 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the import price showed a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 15% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $11,318 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($14,720 per ton), while the price for Nepal ($7,652 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $10,225 per ton in July 2023, flattening at the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.6% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $11,576 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($11,874 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($7,777 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in India
In 2022, copper plates, sheets and strip imports into India totaled 20K tons, with an increase of 3.9% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year.
In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip imports reached $219M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +81.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 68%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
