Price for Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in Thailand (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $10,582 per ton, picking up by 2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 7.6% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $11,349 per ton. From February 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were South Korea ($11,861 per ton) and Japan ($10,883 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($9,194 per ton) and China ($9,791 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $9,275 per ton, rising by 3.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 6.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $9,499 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($11,442 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($7,511 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in Thailand
In 2022, the amount of copper plates, sheets and strips imported into Thailand fell to 50K tons, with a decrease of -4.3% compared with 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 9.4% against the previous year.
In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip imports contracted significantly to $476M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $563M, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Thailand recorded growth in overseas shipments of copper plates, sheets and strips, which increased by 0.3% to 23K tons in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 45%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip exports dropped rapidly to $149M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 66%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $186M, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
