Price for Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $11,844 per ton in August 2023, waning by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 9.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $12,833 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($15,306 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($7,807 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips stood at $14,368 per ton in August 2023, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $15,527 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($27,556 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($12,281 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in the United States
In 2022, approx. 69K tons of copper plates, sheets and strips were imported into the United States; declining by -13.9% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 80K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, copper plates, sheets and strip imports dropped notably to $662M in 2022.
