In 2022, the average copper; refined, unwrought, billets export price amounted to $8,846 per ton, with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 81% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($9,490 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($6,240 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 9.6% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $9,431 per ton. From February 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Germany amounted to -0.1% per month.

In 2022, shipments abroad of copper; refined, unwrought, billetses decreased by -33.6% to 50K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 78K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper; refined, unwrought, billets exports fell dramatically to $440M in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 74%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $619M, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of copper; refined, unwrought, billetses decreased by -4.2% to 18K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 420%.

In value terms, copper; refined, unwrought, billets imports dropped to $161M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 326% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $181M, and then contracted in the following year.
