The average export price for copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses stood at $9,053 per ton in 2022, which is down by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $13,079 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($9,343 per ton) and Finland ($9,165 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($7,350 per ton) and the Netherlands ($8,059 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the Netherlands amounted to +30.0% per month.
