The average import price for copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses stood at $9,522 per ton in May 2024, growing by 7% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Chile ($9,528 per ton), while the price for Peru stood at $9,494 per ton.

From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+1.0%).

In 2022, the average export price for copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses amounted to $11,005 per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses increased by +103.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
