The average import price for copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses stood at $8,613 per ton in March 2024, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2023 an increase of 1.7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $9,334 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to March 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Bulgaria ($8,682 per ton) and Serbia ($8,657 per ton), while the price for Uzbekistan ($8,384 per ton) and Iran ($8,488 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses stood at $8,631 per ton in 2022, falling by -2.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $8,838 per ton, and then declined in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($9,060 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($7,661 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+19.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 768K tons of copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses were imported into Turkey; increasing by 13% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses expanded remarkably to $6.8B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% over the last three years. Over the period under review, exports recorded a precipitous slump. The smallest decline of -4.4% was in 2020.

In value terms, exports of copper; refined, unwrought, cathodes and sections of cathodeses declined notably to $21M in 2022. Overall, exports faced a sharp shrinkage. The smallest decline of -7% was in 2020.
