The average copper; waste and scrap import price stood at $5,020 per ton in December 2023, increasing by 17% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The import price peaked at $5,280 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($7,437 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($3,206 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average copper; waste and scrap export price amounted to $5,986 per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 21% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $7,464 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($7,956 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($2,075 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper; Waste and Scrap in Latvia
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of copper; waste and scraps decreased by -19.9% to 12K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +29.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 15K tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.
In value terms, copper; waste and scrap imports dropped to $54M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $62M, and then declined in the following year.

Exports of Copper; Waste and Scrap in Latvia
In 2022, overseas shipments of copper; waste and scraps decreased by -17.3% to 5.4K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +37.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 58%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 6.6K tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, copper; waste and scrap exports dropped to $33M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $38M, and then contracted in the following year.
