The average export price for cotton; waste other than garnetted stock and yarn (including thread) waste stood at $1,373 per ton in March 2024, surging by 4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 19% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,758 per ton. From July 2023 to March 2024, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($1,639 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($800 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for cotton; waste other than garnetted stock and yarn (including thread) waste stood at $1,027 per ton in March 2024, rising by 3.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 when the average import price increased by 25% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,210 per ton. From December 2023 to March 2024, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Uzbekistan ($1,061 per ton) and the United States ($893 per ton), while the price for Turkmenistan ($808 per ton) and Azerbaijan ($871 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
