In March 2024, the average export price for cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), put up for retail sale amounted to $6,703 per ton, declining by -5.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 50% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $8,483 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to March 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In March 2024, the country with the highest price was Germany ($12,876 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($1,438 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+22.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
