The average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $19,340 per ton in December 2023, which is down by -11.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 124% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $32,435 per ton. From June 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($40,047 per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($3,988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $9,025 per ton, with a decrease of -4.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 15% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $10,003 per ton. From June 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Indonesia ($10,385 per ton) and Vietnam ($10,199 per ton), while the price for China ($7,216 per ton) and Chile ($7,461 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, approx. 16K tons of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds were exported from Canada; which is down by -14.7% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 46%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 19K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds declined markedly to $435M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 108% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $609M, and then shrank notably in the following year.
