Price for Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $9,862 per ton in September 2023, rising by 10% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 29% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $12,115 per ton. From February 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($28,340 per ton), while the price for Italy ($3,501 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $22,198 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $25,621 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($34,882 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($9,541 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Hungary

In 2022, approx. 615 tons of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds were imported into Hungary; therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 177%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds dropped to $5M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 60%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $5.6M, and then declined in the following year.

Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -2.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 54 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds fell to $1.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -12.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 66%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $1.3M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
