The average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $9,911 per ton in January 2024, reducing by -3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 an increase of 4.7% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $11,444 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was China ($13,941 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,402 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In January 2024, the average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $1,716 per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 18% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,927 per ton in November 2023; however, from December 2023 to January 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was China ($1,496 per ton), while the price for Malaysia totaled $1,465 per ton.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+32.8%).

Exports of Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Thailand

In 2022, approx. 76K tons of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds were exported from Thailand; waning by -4% compared with the year before. Overall, exports saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 3.8%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 79K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds fell slightly to $811M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 4% against the previous year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Thailand recorded growth in supplies from abroad of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds, which increased by 29% to 34K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 58%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds surged to $66M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
